Taste of Salt

In this tale set in Haiti two young Haitians from different backgrounds meet and tell each other the story of their lives. Djo, an orphan who grew up in one of Jean-Bertrand Aristide`s boy`s shelters, is lying in a hospital bed after having been beaten while serving as Aristide`s bodyguard. Jeremie is a protected girl from the middle class, who has been sent by Aristide to record the story of Djo`s life. Later, as Djo lies in a coma, Jeremie tells him the story of her own childhood. What emerges are two grim accounts of life in contemporary Haiti, although both characters have hope for the country`s future under Aristide`s leadership. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005.
